About me

Photo-Sandra-Howgate

I originally trained in Theatre Design at Central St Martins, London, and have been working as a professional illustrator since 2003.

In the last few years I’ve been working as a live graphic artist, recording live events with hand drawn words and images. This has many different applications and is most useful in service to a group, it could be a strategy meeting, ‘away day’ or conference and makes the event memorable and fun. In the process it can also help a group gain valuable insights. So far the furthest I've travelled to do this was Athens, but I am based in the leafy London borough of Bromley.

I am a member of the 'Association of Illustrators' and the 'International Forum for Visual Practitioners'.

'Sandra Howgate Limited' is now a registered company: 10255073

What I do...

Graphic Recording at live events.

This is naturally fast-paced, and words sometimes get in the way, so I made a little film to give you a flavour of how it works. I usually draw "live" onto a large piece of paper placed in full view of the audience, and listen to what is said, to find the key words and main thread running through the meeting or event.

I've worked on everything from a dragon's den style business pitch to brainstorming sessions for advertising agencies, educational conferences, 'away days', recording portraits and the lives of civil servants within a government department, and most recently I recorded a wedding!

Please get in touch with me to discuss your needs, as every event is unique.

I can come to you! So far for this work I've travelled to Lisbon, Zurich, Toulouse, Vienna and Athens as well as all over the UK and orbiting the M25.

I'm based in Greater London.

Illustration

I’ve worked mainly as a book and magazine/newspaper illustrator and am very happy to be given a text and ‘solve’ a brief as well as being given more guided direction. I turn ideas into bite sized digestible drawings. In the corporate world I was recently asked to draw the 'story' of a company, drawing as a cartoon the future vision of a company during a period of organisational change, in order to communicate the message more effectively with staff.

Private Commissions and Screenprints

If there is an image that you are interested in or would like personalised please get in touch. The screenprints are usually made in small editions of around 20. As an example the 'Tree Picnic' screenprint was adapted for a bespoke commission into a portrait of a family - it took on a new life and has become a 'Family Tree'.

I sell my screenprints and cards here, the gallery is located next to the Oxo Tower on the Southbank in London:

Southbank Printmakers Gallery, London
